LET’S MAKE IT
Step by step
- 01
In a bowl, toss the sliced beef with 1 teaspoon of soy sauce and half of the crushed black pepper. Set aside for 10 minutes.
- 02
Whisk together remaining soy sauce, halal oyster sauce, brown sugar, and 2 tablespoons of warm water in a small cup.
- 03
Heat 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil in a wok or large skillet over high heat until smoking.
- 04
Add the marinated beef in a single layer and sear without moving for 1 minute. Stir-fry for 1 additional minute until browned, then transfer beef to a plate.
- 05
Add the remaining tablespoon of oil to the wok, then add minced garlic and bell peppers. Cook over high heat for 1 to 2 minutes until garlic is golden.
- 06
Return beef to the wok, pour in the sauce mixture and remaining black pepper. Toss continuously for 1 minute until the sauce coats everything in a glossy glaze, then serve hot.
A LITTLE KITCHEN KNOW-HOW
High-Heat Stir-Frying
Cooking rapidly in small batches over intense heat seals in juices and creates smoky wok flavor while preserving vegetable crunch.
Notes from the kitchen
- Cutting beef against the grain cuts through muscle fibers, producing maximum tenderness in quick stir-fries.
- Ensure the skillet is thoroughly hot before adding beef so it sears rather than steams.
- Original home-cooking adaptation inspired by Thai-inspired; regional versions vary.
- Use halal-certified meat, poultry, stock, sauces, cheese and other processed ingredients. Check labels and avoid cross-contamination. Recipe screening is not halal certification.
