LET’S MAKE IT
Step by step
- 01
Combine beef strips, lime juice, half the minced garlic, 1/2 teaspoon salt, and 1/4 teaspoon black pepper in a bowl, marinating for 10 minutes.
- 02
Heat olive oil in a large skillet over high heat until shimmering.
- 03
Add beef strips in a single layer and sear without moving for 2 minutes, then stir-fry for 2 more minutes until browned; transfer beef to a plate.
- 04
Reduce heat to medium, melt butter in the skillet, and add sliced yellow onions with the remaining minced garlic.
- 05
Sauté onions for 8 minutes, stirring frequently, until translucent, tender, and lightly charred along the edges.
- 06
Pour halal beef broth into the skillet to deglaze the bottom, return beef and resting juices to the pan, toss together for 2 minutes, and stir in chopped parsley before serving.
A LITTLE KITCHEN KNOW-HOW
Acebolado Caramelization
Quick high-heat searing of seasoned meat followed by deglazing the pan juices directly into sliced onions to create a natural, savory onion gravy.
Notes from the kitchen
- Do not overcrowd the pan when searing the beef to ensure a golden brown crust rather than steaming.
- Use a heavy skillet such as cast iron for optimal heat retention and onion charring.
- Original home-cooking adaptation inspired by Brazilian; regional versions vary.
- Use halal-certified meat, poultry, stock, sauces, cheese and other processed ingredients. Check labels and avoid cross-contamination. Recipe screening is not halal certification.
